We have 2 field trips planned in May! Friday, May 9, we will ride the bus to Century II for a Wichita Children's Theatre performance of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

We have 2 field trips planned in May! Friday, May 9, we will ride the bus to Century II for a Wichita Children's Theatre performance of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." We will leave at 9:15 and return by 11:30. The performance is free with a River Festival button, but there may be a small charge for the bus. That afternoon is Field Day, so it will be a great day! Our last field trip of the year will be on Tuesday, May 20 to the Zoo. We will leave at 9:15 and return around 2:00. We will eat sack lunches at the Zoo. Permission slips will go home in late April. All students must return a field trip permission slip or s/he will not be allowed to go

April will be a busy month for assessments in Kindergarten. Our third and final assessment with DIBELS will be in late April, with testing on Letter Naming Fluency, Phoneme Segmentation Fluency, and Nonsense Word Fluency. Results will be sent home as soon as they are entered into the computer and can be printed off. The spring writing assessment will take several days and will begin on April 21. Two days during the week of May 5 will be for re-testing of selected students on the DIAL 3 Assessment. Testing for the final Kindergarten Progress Report will begin in April as well, and will continue into May. Attendance at school will be very important during these assessments.

We are currently in the process of testing progress on the KPR (Kindergarten Progress Reports) which will go home March 28. Spring Break is the week of March 17-21. DIBELS testing will begin on or after April 7 and our spring writing assessment will begin April 21. DIAL testing for selected students will be on a couple of days during the week of May 5.

Conferences are being held February 11-14. Please contact me if you need to reschedule your time or day. Our Valentine's party will be Thursday, February 14 at 10:30 due to the early release that day. There is no school Friday, February 15 due to teacher inservice.

We will be going on a field trip to Exploration Place on Monday, February 4 in the morning. We will be riding a bus and the students will need to pay for their admission. You will be getting a field trip permission slip soon that will have to be signed or your child will not be allowed to go on the trip.

Due to my surgery, I will be absent for a little while, beginning on December 17. At this point, I expect to return on January 14. I expect everything to go very well in my absence and I will be anxious to see everyone on my return!

We will be administering the DIBELS assessment again on December 13. Each child will be tested individually on Letter Naming Fluency, Initial Sound Fluency and Phoneme Segmentation Fluency. Results will be sent home as soon as they can be entered on the computer, which is usually a week or so after the testing is completed. The week of January 14 we will be doing a writing sample in preparation for the Spring District Common Assessment in Writing.

Grandparents' Day at Kensler will be Tuesday, November 20.

Grandparents' Day at Kensler will be Tuesday, November 20. It will begin in the Gym at 10:30 with a welcome and a song by the Kensler Gospel Choir. Grandparents are then invited to visit their grandchildrens' classrooms, take a tour of the school and visit the Book Fair in the Library with their grandchildren. Students going out to lunch with grandparents will be dismissed from 12:00-1:45. Other students will go to lunch as usual.
